Warface at Gamescom 2017

Categories: General

Last week the Warface team travelled to Cologne to meet the players and reveal the plans for this, and even the upcoming year. So without any further ado, let’s get to the hands down most fascinating update this year yet and take a look.

SPECIAL OPERATION: ‘PRIPYAT’

The special operation with a working title “Pripyat” is a new large-scale mission, which transfers players to the zone of the Chernobyl disaster. At the moment, the special operation is being fully developed, and is going to be ready by the end of 2017. According to the developers, this update will become one of the most ambitious missions in the game in terms of the plot and its reality depiction.

New special operation will be especially appreciated by fans of post apocalyptic setting: to create an authentic environment, developers from Crytek visited the exclusion zone several times and studied the terrain. This allowed them to convey the whole mysterious and frightening atmosphere of this legendary place.

“We are pleased to announce a new large-scale special operation, which will mark a new era in the history of Warface. Pripyat is a legendary and dangerous place, and now we will give players a chance to find themselves right in the heart of this abandoned city. Once the special operation goes live, it immediately becomes an important milestone in the development of both gameplay and plot of Warface: after its release, we will launch a whole series of plot-related updates that will lead to a grand interchange. In other words, Pripyat launches a new era in Warface, and our players should be ready for the disclosure of many plot details and secrets,” said Michael Khaimzon, Creative Director of Crytek.

NEW ENEMY

It has also been noted that Special Operation: ‘Pripyat’ will also introduce a whole new set of enemies and bosses, whose behaviour has been designed drastically different from those currently existent in the game. As a result, the new Spec Op promises to be a thrill for both new and old-school players alike.

BRIDGES OVERHAUL

The ‘Bridges’ map has received an overhaul thanks to the ‘Atlas of War’ participants, and is scheduled to become available as of the next game update. The landscape will stay the same, retaining its tactical features much liked by the players in the old version, but will receive a visual upgrade and a more authentic look.

International Open Cup

It was also announced on Gamescom that the first international tournament season — Warface Open Cup — will be launched in Europe and in the USA, with winners proceeding to the LAN-Finals, to be held in Moscow, Russia in early 2018. Teams from Europe, North America, Brazil and Russia will be competing in this tournament.
